Definition

SOL is the native token of Solana. Every transaction on Solana requires SOL to pay gas (network compute costs) and often a small rent-exempt deposit. Staking SOL to validators earns network yield and secures the chain.

On DEXes, SOL is the most common quote asset — most Solana meme coins pair against SOL on Raydium. Wrapped SOL (WSOL) is the SPL Token version used inside DeFi programs that expect SPL tokens on both sides of a swap.
