Definition
A swap route is the sequence of pool hops used to complete a trade. Simple routes are single-pool (SOL → BONK on Raydium). Complex routes hop through multiple DEXes and intermediate tokens for better pricing.
Aggregators quote and compare thousands of possible routes per trade. Route quality is one reason large trades should always go through Jupiter or similar aggregators.
