Glossary / Solana Core
Solana's newer token program (also called Token Extensions) that adds features like transfer fees, non-transferable tokens, and interest-bearing balances to the SPL model.
Token-2022 is a successor token program on Solana that extends the classic SPL Token spec with optional extensions: transfer fee, non-transferable, interest bearing, permanent delegate, confidential transfer, and more. Each mint declares which extensions it uses when created.
Token-2022 is powerful for utility tokens that need protocol-level features, but not every DEX aggregator and wallet supports every extension. For standard meme coins, the classic SPL Token program is usually the safer default.
